Pop Up Design Store
The fourth edition of our Pop Up Design Store is coming up fast on Sunday 24 March at Blackhill Bakery again on Dumbarton Road, Glasgow.
Let’s find out a little more about each of the makers involved…
Tom Hardwick
Tom is an illustrator based in East Yorkshire and his work is inspired by the natural world around us. Tom likes to work with a screen print like aesthetic which has translated from prints into a range of illustrated merch, such as pins and patches.
Studio Yōki
Studio Yōki specialises in creating small batch handmade ceramics planters and vases. Every product is handcrafted by Emma in her Glasgow studio. Using a variety of hand building techniques, Emma creates beautifully organic ceramic products to adorn your plants and home alike. The nature of Emma’s style of working and the techniques she uses, means each product she creates is unique.
Nmarra
Nmarra specialises in bold brassy statement earrings that frame the face in compositions to catch the light! These graphically led brass pieces are lightweight and feature gold plated hooks and studs. Guaranteed to turn heads and recieve compliments wherever they go, Nmarra pieces make the perfect present or treat for your self!
David McDiarmid Studio
Find here a fun-filled, food-focussed studio in Glasgow’s East End, producing affordable, handmade artworks and gifts for fellow food lovers and cooking enthusiasts. From original oil paintings of your favourite ingredients to display in your kitchen, to ceramic pasta magnets for your fridge, to handcrafted coasters and placemats to set your table with, David McDiarmid Studio makes art for foodies.
Kieron Redmond
Kieron is a graphic designer who uses curiosity, creativity and compassion to design logos, branding, posters and more. On the side he makes colourful, playful prints of his illustrations. These reflect some of his interests, such as Glasgow (where he lives), cycling, Japan and cowboys!
Freya Mabel Makes
A Scottish maker of tapestries, clothing and prints - Freya is a Fashion Technology graduate based in Highland Perthshire. Her studies and experience within the industry has led to her making well-thought products that are made to a very high standard.
Having grown up spending holidays camping in the Highlands and Islands - in all weathers, Freya has a strong love for Scotland. Her Scottish landscape tapestries allow her to use her creative abilities to capture the iconic places she has explored.
Using appliquéd felt in a minimalistic style with detailed stitching and a refined colour palette, these tapestries work both individually and as mini collections.
RR Designs
RR Designs, established by jeweller Rachel Rogers in 2015, specialises in sterling silver collections with a focus on sculptural design inspired by the organic forms found in nature. All pieces of RR Designs jewellery are carefully designed and handcrafted by Rachel in her Glasgow studio.
Tenetiles
Tenetiles aka Zoë Miller, is a self-taught printmaker living in Glasgow, Scotland. Inspired by her love for Glasgow's streets and architecture, she has created a collection of finely carved and hand-printed linocuts of traditional tenement "close" tiles.
Alan Campbell
Alan is a Glasgow based screen print artist, with work focused on literature, storytelling and word play. He has exhibited extensively in solo and joint exhibitions across Glasgow as well as featured in group shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco and Denver. Including officially licensed work for Monty Python and print releases with New york's Bottleneck gallery and pieces being ascended into the Glasgow Museum collection and NHS Scotland.
Lucy Freeman
Lucy Freeman is a textile artist based in Edinburgh. Merging the traditional craft of embroidery with contemporary design, her work is full of vibrant colours, painterly stitching and delicate botanical and floral imagery.
Lucy creates entirely hand-crafted wall hangings and framed embroideries, often working on a large scale rarely seen in embroidery. Her innovative methods for framing and presenting embroidery have elevated her work to national recognition in galleries and the press. Lucy loves to introduce people to embroidery. She is an experienced tutor, having taught workshops across the UK for the last six years, as well as producing a successful range of embroidery kits, which have been sold in John Lewis and Liberty.
Jay Frazer
Edinburgh based Ceramicist Jay Frazer produces wheel thrown stoneware pottery. With inspiration deriving from Scottish Sea and landscapes, Jay’s ceramics are fluid, tactile works that achieve a balance between natural and contemporary. Her pottery ranges from tableware to one off vases and table lamps. Jay enjoys using a variety of glazes that she develops herself, alongside some commercial glazes. She often allows for serendipity in her work, layering glazes to encourage tactile and provocative effects, resulting in works that add interest to daily life.
